ACT 378 of 1909
AN ACT to provide for the
location, erection, organization, management and maintenance of a State
Sanatorium for the Treatment of Tuberculosis in the State of Arkansas, and
making an appropriation for the purchase of the necessary land and the
construction and equipment of the necessary buildings and for the
maintenance of the sanatorium.
Section

The Arkansas
Tuberculosis Sanatorium is established for treatment of persons
suffering from tuberculosis.

Appropriated $50,000 for
purchase of the site, equipment and construction for the Sanatorium.

Appropriated $30,000 for
running expense and maintenance of the Sanatorium.

A Board of Trustees is
established with 6 members and terms of office set at six years in
rotating schedules. Two of the board of trustees must be
physicians.

The powers and duties of
board are outlined.

The board is to have
total control of property and affairs of the Sanatorium.

No salary allowed for
the members of the board.

The board directed to
appoint a medical superintendent for the Sanatorium.

The board is directed to
establish certain by-laws.

The criteria for
admission of patients is set. The person must be shown by test or
examination to be suffering from tuberculosis and must be a Arkansas
resident. Patients unable to pay will be conditionally admitted
upon written application from their County Judge.

Persons who are able to
pay for their care and maintenance are allowed to do so as long as they
meet Section 10 criteria.

The general meetings of
the board are set. Duties of superintendent, secretary and
treasurer are outlined.
